Description
This work is fresh to the market, a new discovery, and is selling at NO RESERVE. This was picked 25 years ago from the Theodore Buttler estate who had direct ties to Claude Monet. This artwork is 3.5" x 5" with a small period frame adding just under .5" to the overall piece. The artwork itself is period 1890 - 1900. oil on board, thick paint. Impressionist Period work. signed with pallet knife in the thick paint lower left. MONET - This item was brought to the gallery by the same picker that discovered the William Merritt Chase painting in 2001 that sold for $750,000 in Mebane NC with no internet. Major auction houses turned that painting down saying it was New York school Est $3,000 but when viewed in person by art dealers it came to lite that it was in fact a Chase. This picker doesn't want to deal with a major auction company he submitted this work to me because he has known me for 30 years. it is a NEW DISCOVERY FRESH TO THE MARKET. a very small painting that would not have been faked in the year 1890-1900. Monet was known for creating these type paintings while on sail boats, likely given as a passing gift to one of the Butler's. One Art Gallery already called asking if it is in his catalogue raisonne. This painting would not be in such as it was done in a fleeting manner and given as a gift of some sort. New discoveries in art happen all the time and this is one of them. Provenance: purchased directly from the Butler Estate in New York. Theodore Earl Buttler (1861–1936) was an American impressionist painter. He was born in Columbus, Ohio, and moved to Paris to study art. He befriended Claude Monet in Giverny, and married his stepdaughter, Suzanne Hoschedé. After her death he married her sister, Marthe Hoschedé. In 1914, the Butler family moved to New York when Butler got a commission to paint mural panels for the home of William Paine. He contributed two paintings to the 1913 Armory Show in New York City, Marine and Fourteenth of July, Paris.[6] He founded with his friend, John Sloan, the Society of Independent Artists and served on its board from 1918 to 1921. The breakout of World War I prevented Butler from returning to Giverny until 1921. This object was discovered in 1995 and kept in a private collection. It is now offered for the first time ever at public sale.
