Extremely Rare W. H. Harrison Invitation to 1841 Tippecanoe Inaugural Ball. Beautifully Displayed.

Invitation, March 4, 1841, Baltimore, MD, 4.5" x 7" and beautifully framed to an overall size of 12.5" x 16" in a gold frame with mauve and gold matting. The invitation, featuring the iconic Harrison log cabin at top center, is printed in gold on quality stock with an elaborately blind-embossed border. Expected folds, minor toning, else fine. Not examined outside of frame.

William Henry Harrison's "Tippecanoe" inaugural ball was held at Carusi's Saloon in Washington, D.C., on Thursday evening, 4th of March, 1841, and was one of three balls President Harrison attended. The invitation lists the "managers" of the inaugural ball, including members of Congress, officers of the Army, Navy, and Marine Corps, and citizens which include Henry Clay, Daniel Webster, Millard Fillmore, future Union Admiral David D. Porter (as a young lieutenant), the printer Peter Force, and numerous other Washington luminaries. Harrison succumbed to pneumonia only one month after the inauguration.

Extremely Rare. We have handled only one other example of this invitation in our company's history. That copy sold for $4,687.50 including the buyers premium in March of 2016.
