Description
From the description of Tacitus, the fierce leader of the Iceni, take-no-prisoners destroyer of Londinium, is depicted having long curly hair, a large jeweled toque, a fur mantle and a fierce mien. She nearly forced the Romans off the British Isles after the death of her husband, the loss of her lands and the rape of her two daughters which she was forced to watch while being flogged. In the perverse Roman manner, she became a heroine known for her take no prisoner fighting. She poisoned herself rather than being taken prisoner to be paraded through Rome. The bust is mounted on a butterscotch color pedestal, roughly 34" x 21" x 12", fine condition.
