Description

Important Prancing Horse Weathervane, circa 1860, having molded and sheet copper body, on an iron support bar, simulating the ground. Beautiful original verdegris patina. We have found no other example of this weathervane as large as this 28" high x 43" wide, example. No restoration, gallery stand included. Most reference books attribute the 'Prancing Horse' to Boston. See: "Art of the Weathervane" by Miller, pg. 216; "Spiritually Moving" by Geismar & Kahn, Cat no. 9 illus.; "The Art of the Winds" by Shaw pg. 107.
