Ivory Coast, Akan Region, early period portrait mask of the Baule tribe, whose culture has remained unchanged since the 13th c. or earlier. This is a fine and typical example of their craft, showing their use of pigments. Used in funeral rites and 'Poro' society meetings. Roughly 14" x 6 1/2" x 4".
