Description
Frederick Albert Slocombe (British born 1847); Oil on canvas on stretcher signed lower right corner, Fred Slocombe / 1875?", titled to label, "A Narrow Escape" (Elizabethan Lady escaping from a Courtier coming down stairs); the label reads: "Fred Slocombe / 10 Rockhalls Terrace / Cricklewood / London NW". Probably original period gesso frame. Height of art 15 3/4 inches (40 cm.) X width of art 25 1/2 inches (64.5 cm.). NOTE: Although a trained painter, Fred, aong with his brothers, Charles Philip and Edward, the 3 Slocombe brothers became famous for their etchings at the end of 19th Century London exhibiting widely at the Royal Academy and producing etchings for other artists not as gifted.
Condition
Age related wear and small flakes with rubbing to surface and a partial additional date and signature slightly visible below visible signature; the frame worn with chips and broken old repairs.
