Description

DESCRIPTION: Antique Meissen ribbed porcelain chocolate pot decorated on the body and lid with scenes people in gardens. Scenes are framed by gilt borders and surrounded by floral and foliage designs in low relief and floral and foliage motifs. Handle is adorned with applied floral and foliage designs and lid is finished with a metal hinge and a thistle flower finial. Marked on underside with blue crossed swords hallmark; marked inside lid in purple ink "No. 44". Provenance: Collection of Martin and Helene Schwalberg, owners of The Meissen Shop founded on June 23, 1978 on Worth Ave. in Palm Beach and closed in 2005. From Akama.com : The Schwalbergs are premier experts on Meissen porcelain and have given many illustrated lectures at museums, antique clubs and appraisers associations. Objects acquired from The Meissen Shop are in several museums around the country including the Wark Collection of Early Meissen Porcelain in the Cummer Gallery of Art in Jacksonville, Florida, the H. Lloyd Hawkins, Jr. Meissen Collection of over 350 Meissen figures at the New Orleans Museum of Art and the Kathy and Ronald Gillmeister Collection of Early Meissen Porcelain at the Crocker Art Museum in Sacramento, California.
