3rd century A.D. A silver ring with ellipsoid double-concave hoop, expanding towards the conical shoulders, high gilt bezel with circular carnelian gemstone bearing the image of a seated gryphon with its front leg resting on a wheel. Cf. Ruseva-Slokoska, L., Roman Jewellery, Sofia, 1991, item 226, for type. 5.71 grams, 23.55 mm overall, 17.54 mm internal diameter ( approximate size British H, USA 3 3/4, Europe 6.18, Japan 6) (7/8 in.). Acquired 1980s. From a Home Counties, UK, collection. The ring belongs to the same category with a one found in the treasure of Chaoushevo, in the Balkans. This type of ring is typical of the 3rd century A.D. in the area of Moesia Inferior and Thracia.
