Description
American landscape painter (1836-1892) who achieved distinction for his subtle, delicate treatment of scenes in the Adirondacks and Catskills and of peaceful rural landscapes. ALS signed “A. H. Wyant,” three pages on two adjoining sheets, 8.5 x 10.5, April 5, 1866. A wonderfully chatty handwritten letter to his parents and sister describing his life in London, bemoaning his loneliness, and detailing a painting he is working on. In part: "It is a picture of evening, the sun about an hour high, & behind trees, breaking through here & there, dancing among leaves & branches, stopping for a moment on the feathery top of a willow, then jumping to the willow's reflection in the water below; sporting amongst grasses & ferns in the foreground, gliding the edge of an old King-fisher that sits patiently on a dead snag." In fine condition.
