South Asia, India, ca. early 20th century CE. A stunning and sizeable painting on fabric featuring the image of 9 people gathering in a garden in hues of olive, pine, cobalt, navy, lavender, coral, brown, beige, white, black, and puce, all in a lovely wooden frame. Surrounded by a floral border, the elegant image displays a man in a turban with 8 women dressed in saris and veils, all walking through fields of flowers as the night stars shimmer above them. A river flows in the foreground, while a forest and another body of water can be seen in the background. One woman walks with the man and points upwards, gesturing towards a flock of white cranes taking flight in the midground. Size (painting): 50.8" W x 68.7" H (129 cm x 174.5 cm); (frame): 52.2" W x 70.2" H (132.6 cm x 178.3 cm)

Staining, light fold lines, and some fading to pigments. Otherwise, intact and excellent with nice preservation of detail. Suspension wire on verso of frame.
