Description
An 18th C. Chippendale carved cherry sugar or liquor chest featuring a flat lift top over two false-drawer fronts, sides with bail handles, and molded base on shaped bracket feet. 17-1/2in tall x 20-1/2in wide x 16in deep. Interior apparently reworked/altered, with no dividers present, and with later wood supports added to upper side edges; one support with later oscillating brace and bracket to hold lift-lid open; later slim wood pieces glued over splits/seams to interior side panels for stabilization; interior front with added wood blocks for supporting false drawer fronts (the drawer fronts possibly removed from drawers and later adhered); replaced brass pulls to front; replaced hinges to lift lid top with evidence of former hinges installed (screw holes); some occasional splits, patches, and plugs to surface, including to front and feet; left facing side foot bracket with old break to pointed segment (now missing), and possibly with replaced element to dovetailed joint; other front foot with repaired splits / breaks.
