Karel Christiaan Appel

Abstract expressive forms comprised of black, red, light blue, and yellow against white. Appel studied at the Royal Academy in Amsterdam before leaving for Paris to focus on action painting. He won the UNESCO prize in 1952 and was commissioned by the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam in 1956 to paint a mural.

Numbered, signed, and dated "119/200 Appel '60" in pencil along bottom margin.
