Description
Sarah Lamb
(American, Contemporary)
"Homage to N. C. Wyeth", 2009
oil on linen
unsigned, and "Meredith Long & Company, Houston, TX" labels with artist, title and date en verso.
Framed.
42" x 42", framed 48-1/2" x 48-1/2"
Provenance: Meredith Long & Company, Houston, Texas; private collection.
Literature: Kolpas, Norman, "Artist Spotlight: Sarah Lamb", Western Art and Architecture , August/September, 2020; and Morris, Roger, "Sarah Lamb's Tasteful Still Lives", Signature Brandywine , May, 2009.
Notes: Sarah Long favors painting still lives where she explores the different textures of the assembled objects. As a teenager, Lamb attended an exhibition of the paintings in Washington, D.C. devoted to three generations of the Wyeth family artists. The experience was profound and encouraged her to follow the path of an artist.
Today, Long and her portraitist husband, David Larned, live in Houston and spend summers at their farm in Pennsylvania's Brandywine Valley, near the studio home of the late N. C. Wyeth. In this painting, "Homage to N. C. Wyeth", Long depicts herself at the easel in the reflection of the glass bottle and reveals the lasting influence of the Wyeth.
