This CDV card shows a Sioux woman, Azayamankawin AKA Old Bets (Betsey) a woman who cared for 269 Minnesotans during the Sioux uprising of September 1862. The Sioux were defeated and the captives later released. This card was photographed by Joel E. Whitney in 1862 of St. Paul. Azayamankawin a Mdewakanton Dakota woman lived until 1873 photographed here in senior years. The card has chip missing center bottom and top cornered are beveled.
