Description
Altar statue depicting the historical Buddha Sakyamuni seated in padmasana on an oval base. His right hand touches the earth in the gesture of calling the Earth as a witness to his enlightenment (bhumisparsamudra). Peculiarity of the production of this period is the decorative vest (uttarasanga) folded to form adorning tinsel on the base and on the left shoulder. The serene and meditative face, the elongated lobes and the hair gathered in the ushnisha are instead common to the traditional Buddhist iconography. Traces of the original polychromy on the face."
