Description
(1830 - 1899) Confederate brigadier general during the American Civil War, in which he was wounded twice, and fought mainly in the Western Theater. He fought valiantly at Shiloh, Murfreesboro and Chickamauga, His military career ended when an artillery shell blew his leg off before Atlanta. A.L.S. on Shelby County Criminal Court letterhead, 1p. 4to., Memphis, Apr. 26, 1892. Vaughn return signed cards and a photo to an admirer, noting: 'I am unable to recognize a single feature of myself...If it had not been labeled Gen. A. J. Vaughn I would never have known it for my picture...' Folds, else very good.
