Description
HANNA REITSCH (1912 - 1979) German pilot. Reitsch was the first woman to fly a helicopter, a rocket plane, and a jet fighter. She is also remembered as being a loyal confidante of Adolf Hitler, even landing a small plane in central Berlin in an attempt to extract Hitler only days before the city fell. A fine Reitsch personal item, her sterling silver personal cigarette case bearing her engraved signature filled with green enamel. The case measures 2 x 3 3/4 in. with a hinged top lid. The top lid is engraved and enamel-filled as described, the interior would contain four or five cigarettes but the original elastic straps are not present. The case is hallmarked by maker Wimmer & Rieth, Pforzheim. Well-used, with the bottom of the case slightly bowed, else very good.
