Description

(1894 - 1966) German military governor of Paris during the closing days of the occupation of that city during World War II. He claimed to have disobeyed Hitler's order to leave Paris in rubble during this last stage of the war. Rare, fine association signed postal cover, the Artcraft cover commemorating France in the 'Occupied Nations' series with a stamp bearing the French flag and canceled in Washington, Sep. 28, 1943. Choltitz applies his bold signature above the recipient's address. Fine.
