Description
This early 19th century oval top hinged on a delicate swelled turned standard joined to a tripod base with rolled feet. The candlestand is beautifully decorated and embellished with hand painted ivy and vinery with scrolling sprigs and flowers.Often, the families would commission a cabinet maker to create furniture and accessories for the express purpose of being decorated by their children who usually attended small academies throughout New England where young girls were taught the art of decorations including painting, needlework, penmanship, watercolor on paper etc. SIZE: 28-3/4” h. Oval top is 21” x 15”. Condition: CONDITION: Retains paint decoration on the base. The top worn. Structurally the stand is in very good condition. A rare and unqiue example.
