Glassmaking.- Neri (Antonio) L'Arte vetraria distinta in libri sette, first edition, title with woodcut printer's device, woodcut head- and tail-pieces and decorative initials, title upper and lower blank inner corners chipped, the lower with very short tear, K4 short tear within text, with loss of 2 letters verso, without loss of sense of text, partially repaired in margin, occasional staining, including to upper margin of title, some foxing, lightly browned throughout, 20th century dark blue morocco-backed boards, spine gilt, [Ferguson II, 135; Honeyman 2296; Camerini I Giunti, 338; Wellcome I, 4526], small 4to, Florence, Giunti, 1612.

⁂ First edition of the first general treatise on glassmaking. 'Many of the secrets of glassmaking are here recorded for the first time. Neri is believed to have learned the art of glassmaking at Murano, near Venice' (Honeyman). The main part of the text deals with the coloring of glass with metallic oxides to give not only clear and uniform colors but also various veined effects' (DSB).
