Hammer's business interests around the world and his "citizen diplomacy" helped him cultivate a wide network of friends and associates. His art collection and his philanthropic projects were the subject of numerous publications. Acquired from the estate of George Longstreet, a renown collector of fine original illustrations and prints, and whose collection has appeared in dozens of museums and exhibits over the last four decades. In 1976, Armand Hammer acquired 5000 Daumier objects that George Longstreet began to amass in Paris more than 50 years ago.
