Gelatin silver print, Morocco 201, by Aaron Siskind (1903-1991). Pencil signed and dated, 1982, with the photographer's printing notes on reverse. 13 7/8 x 11 inches. Very rare print, believed to be unique. Excellent condition. Sold unframed.
Aaron Siskind was an important American photographer who was part of the abstract expressionist movement. Working all over the world, he was close friends with painters Mark Rothko, Franz Kline, and Willem de Kooning.
Provenance: Acquired directly from Aaron Siskind by the present owner.
Siskind's work is in the permanent collection of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, NYC [https://www.metmuseum.org/art/collection/search/264509] as well as many other important collections, including the Art Institute of Chicago, the J. Paul Getty Museum, and the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art.
