Very fine slant-front secretary of the American Hepplewhite period, c. Late 18th-Early 19th Century. Highly figured tiger maple with pine secondary woods, featuring a slanted drop-front writing surface with fully veneered drawers and storage compartments, (3) dovetailed drawers over splayed bracket legs. Drawer pulls are pressed brass with a scenic hunting motif. Dimensions: (Desk folded up) H 42.25" x W 40" x D 19.75"; with writing surface down, piece measures 34" deep. Desk height is 30". Condition: Missing keys, drawer pulls are not original. Previous restoration and conservation work likely. A few breaks and losses to trim at bottom, one storage compartment missing top trim piece. True antique patina and wear throughout, including a few stress cracks, nicks and chips to edges, scuffs, scratches, and dings, etc.
