Item Details
Description
1949 Ford 2-door sedan. The 1949 Ford provided the company with the first fully redesigned body style of all the American domestic car manufacturers following World War II. The new refreshed styling eliminated previously distinct running boards and articulated fenders, a trend called ponton where bodywork enclosed the entire width and length of the car, cleaning up its lines.Customizers loved the simple lines of the Fords produced from 1949 to 1951 and came up with all kinds of custom touches similar to what this 1949 Ford "kemp" displays in all its glory. The owner of this car spent many evenings in the garage culling custom car magazines where he could study what a kemp should look like. A kemp is slang developed in the early 1950s by teens to denote any car that had some custom touches applied either inside or outside. This '49 2-door kemp has owner stitched seat and side panel upholstery, various period correct dash and accessory items. He even included a roll bar, flip-down rear seat and a small container between the seats to hold his cassette tape tunes. Outside the car has frenched headlights (headlights that are recessed into the fenders) along with frenched taillights. Hand drawn pin striping is applied to the candy apple red paint further detailed with a trunk displayed "Lucky Lady" graphic. Early Ford ripple bumpers grace both front and rear and a full custom chrome grille draws immediate attention with its side-to-side bars and center nose cones.A small block Chevy provides the go power through a GM automatic and the car starts and drives smooth and cooool. Lake pipes are plumbed to provide some flame throwing on demand and the wide whites with chrome reverse wheels finish it all off in kemp style.Along with this "Kemp Klassic" comes quite an assortment of trophies won during it's time on the circuit!
