Lady's Six Part Going Away Dress incl. Hat. Comprising: 1.Inner jacket bodice: ocher silk faille boned and lined inner jacket, completely sheathed in lace. Original hooks and eyes. 2. Outer jacket bodice: brown silk faille lined fabric with maroon velvet collar, Chinese purple silk brocade insets to front and cuffs, original hooks and eyes. Row of Chinese painted mother of pearl buttons. 3. Petticoat, brown cotton upper, seven rows of purple-grey silk flounces with wool bias tape to hem. 4. Overskirt: brown silk faille alternating with panels of the Chinese purple silk brocade. 5. Collar: Brown silk faille, lined in brown waxed cotton, with cotton soutache and fringe. 6. Hat: brown velvet with dyed orange ostrich feather and a band of sequin, gold thread and and gold beads applied toward crown front, bow of velvet to back. Condition: The overall condition is moderate. The hat and collar in good condition. The silk fabric is shattered at areas of stress including seams, and front at buttons, near hips, etc. There is some conservation meshing to the back of the mauve silk brocade on the skirt. Despite these issues, the garments are a good example of their type. Notes: While originally a dress with the typical slender profile for the period, the skirt have been altered to accommodate pregnancy.
