Art Decker's approach to landscape painting suggests an affinity with Magic Realism, where a realistic view is embellished with magical elements - sprinkled with imagination if you will - inviting the viewer to a fantasy world that is still grounded in reality. In this painting Decker presented the Mazatzal Mountains of south central Arizona in this magical way. He is known for using a unique oil paint layering technique when perfecting his coloration that furnishes his landscapes with depth and tonal richness. The Mazatzal Mountains derive their name from the Nahuatl language - meaning "place of the deer".
