About the artist: Arthur Wardle (United Kingdom, 1864-1949) was most prominently known as an animalier painter. His prolific oeuvre centered around domestic animals, especially dogs of various breeds. He created rich, veristic works of domestic pets and hunting animals in a high degree of realism. Wardle began his career by sketching cattle near the Thames River and exotic animals at the London Zoo. Today Wardle's work can be found within the collection of the Tate Gallery, Leeds Museum, and The Kennel Club.
