Many of the best Khotan rugs have designs with one or more medallions. This specific antique Khotan rug one has rows of small medallions arranged as an allover design, like we see in the Turkoman rugs from further west. Smaller secondary forms between the medallions also recall Turkoman Yomut rugs, but the intervening pale blue forms are an extraordinary addition to such a design.
