Item Details
Description
A pair of matching antique Japanese black vases. The vases have hand-painted scrolling depictions of Japanese gods and daoist monks in traditional attire and are richly decorated with ornamental gilding. Satsuma ware is a type of Japanese pottery which originated in Satsuma Province. Since the 19th century it was mainly produced for Western export and therefore elaborately decorated. Hieroglyphical hallmarks on the bottom of both pieces indicate that the vases were made during the late Meiji period, 1868-1913. Antique Japanese Oriental Decor Items, Satsuma Pottery For Collectors.
