acquired directly from the above by the present owners, 1966
Note:
The present lot bears a label from the Russian Imperial Exhibit with a handwritten note numbered "4360" and inscribed: '"Troubadour' by Messonier [sic], foremost French artist of the 19th century. From the collection of Nicholai I in the Winter Palace. The seal on the back is that of Nicholai I as King of Poland."
