Paul Sormani (1817-1877)Imposing gentleman's travel case, made of wood which is completely covered with small octagons made of marquetry in drilled and tinted metals and small pieces of wood. The interior has all the necessary objects for a gentleman's grooming and comfort during travel, made of chased silver. Contains: Jug and basin, a tabletop mirror, three bottles, a glass jar with a lid, two brushes, a hand mirror, seven glass boxes with lids, two silver lids which are missing the glass container, utensils for shaving, two removable candlesticks, a case with nibs etc. a small flask, a silver recipient with a cut glass vessel decorated in gold, and a container with a carved ivory handle. The owner's marks are engraved on all pieces.Provenance: Acquired in Paris directly from Sormani by an ancestor of the current owner. Closed measurements: 24 x 46 x 31 cm.Signed: P. Sormani.
