Portrait of a man wearing a gray coat and vest. Unsigned. Inscribed on upper stretcher bar "Purchased by W. Eliot Fette, May 14th 1881 at auction of the effects of Wm. Makapeace, acsiduary legit will of Miss Betsy Hill". Label upper right marked "Museum of Fine Art Lent by Mrs. Atherton Noyes T.L. 3563".
