⁂ The first formal enunciation of the law of gaseous partial pressures. The importance of these essays was recognised immediately and the discoveries helped to establish meteorology as a science.
Also containing William Henry's 'Review of some Experiments...to Disprove the Materiality of Heat' and John Gough's 'Investigation of the Method whereby Men judge, by the Ear, of the Position of Sonorous Bodies...' with another engraved plate.
