Africa.- Caillié (René) Travels through Central Africa to Timbuctoo; and Across the Great Desert to Morocco, 2 vol., first English edition, mounted portrait frontispiece on india paper, folding aquatint view of Timbuctoo, vol. 2 half-title, 2 folding lithographed maps, both with tear to and tape repair on verso (the first to blank margin; the second affecting text of scale but no loss), 4 wood-engraved plates, advertisements to both vol., vol. 1 gutter foot cracked at p.1, some spotting, mainly marginal and to maps and plates, original drab boards with paper labels to spines, vol. 1 spine and label chipped, spines toned and chipped, some light soiling to covers, uncut, 8vo, 1830.
⁂ Provenance: Countess of Meath (ink ownership inscription to upper cover vol. 1); Mary Jane Brabazon (née Maitland, 1847-1918), wife of Reginald Brabazon, 12th Earl of Meath. An active philanthropist, she founded the first home of its kind in Britain for women and girls with epilepsy in Surrey.
