Description
Smith (Dodie) [An Autobiography], 4 vol., first editions, signed presentation inscriptions from the author to Jon Wynne-Tyson to endpaper, vol. 3 with signed presentation inscription from Dodie Smith's friend Phyllis Morris "Most of the things Dodie has said about me is true!" to endpaper, original boards, dust-jackets, some light creasing to head and foot, else fine, 1974-85; and a small quantity of letters to Jon, most from Phyllis Morris with a copy of Valerie Grove's Dear Dodie with annotations in Jon's hand, v.s. (sm. qty.)

⁂ An excellent collection inscribed to the son of one of Dodie Smith's oldest friends, Esmé Wynne-Tyson (1898-1972). The letters comprise c. 180 from Morris herself and c.70 from her friends and relatives. Morris' letters are filled with colour and character with numerous references to Smith and her works, most particularly those for theatre, many of which featured Morris in lead roles. The majority of the Phyllis Morris/ Dodie Smith letters are held by Boston University.
