This caramel pichet de Provence was a vessel for hard cider. These pitchers were only produced in the city of Aubagne following “La Vallèe de l’Huvéanne” north into St. Zachary, another town in Provence known for ‘Terre Vernissée’. The rim of this specific pitcher was quite a detailed attribute for which this piece was known. The pinched spout following a rim with a surprising design is a hallmark of this pitcher. The glaze color was caramel, as this was economical. By the mid-19thC, green and yellow glaze could be found on these pitchers. Caramel is the color of choice if one wants the original pitcher. This pitcher is early 19th C. Dimensions: H 13.75" x W 10" x D 9.75" Condition: Chips, glaze losses, crazing, surface scratches and marks. Wear consistent with age and use.
