Item Details
Description
Exceptional Portsmouth NH sofa with reeded posts with textured birch veneer on reeded legs with extensive provenance and linage pertaining to Dartmouth/Hanover NH with daguerreotypes of family/ photocopy of home. The original owner of the sofa was Professor Ebenezer Adams (1765-1841) and past down to Ira Young (1801-1858) and then to John Carroll Procter (1840-1879). Professor Adams built his house in 1810 on the grounds of Dartmouth College in which the sofa was located. Re-named the "Proctor House" it was used as a dormitory in the later years. In 1912 it was demolished to make room for the Tuck School. Dimensions: 79" Length x 16" Seat Height x 36" Overall Height
Condition
Very good original condition. Two of the legs are somewhat loose but can be secured with minor effort. Some of the birch paneling is uplifted but can be reglued easily. We do have an antique furniture restorer that can easily fix these issues.
