Description
Two late 18th/ 19th C. needleworks, one signed schoolgirl sampler and one embroidered map of North America, details include: sampler by Rachel Atkison, 19th C., alphabet and numeric characters, signed at lower left, some errors including missing the letter "J", wear consistent with age including loose thread, small areas of loss, staining, etc., ss: 7 3/4" h. x 8 1/4" w.; and one embroidered map of North America, black thread and ink on silk, locations include New Navarre, New Albion, Nootka, Halifax, Cuba, etc., condition with shattering and loss throughout but larger area in upper right corner, some staining and toning, ss: 8 1/2" h. x 9 3/4" w., both pieces framed and matted under glass, neither examined out of frame, both sold as found.
