Description
Pre-Columbian, West Mexico, Colima, ca. 300 BCE to 300 CE. A fascinating pottery mask displaying a stylized visage with annular eyes beneath straight brows, a curved nose with a septum adornment, prominent cheekbones, and an ovoid mouth held open as though mid-song or chant. A pair of square ears flank the face, each presenting a petite earspool, while 3 quadrilateral embellishments representing a coiffure or headdress protrude from the sides and top of the vizard, all incised with linear striations. Size: 5.6" W x 6.7" H (14.2 cm x 17 cm); 8.4" H (21.3 cm) on included custom stand.
This piece has been tested using thermoluminescence (TL) analysis and has been found to be ancient and of the period stated. A full printed and bound report is available to the buyer upon request.

Condition
Professionally repaired with restoration to top crest and left ear. Small area of loss to left periphery on verso. Minor chip to left eyebrow and right ear. Expected nicks and abrasions throughout. Otherwise, very niece with light earthen deposits. TL holes to right and top of verso.
