An indication of Grace Albee’s success as a printmaker was her admission to the highly selective National Academy of Design. She was only the second woman in the history of the Academy to receive the Associate distinction in the class of Graphic Arts (1941). Grace Albee was also the first female graphic artist ever to attain full Academician membership (1946). Over a sixty span, Grace produced more than 250 prints from linocuts, woodcuts and wood engravings. She hand-printed all her work until an advanced age. Albee's works are represented in many public collections, including the Providence Art Club, Rhode Island School of Design Museum, Newport Art Museum, Boston Public Library, Georgetown University Library, Cleveland Museum of Art & Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. The Library of Congress has 23 of her prints in its collection. Her works are in the Smithsonian Institution, in the Rosenwald collection in the National Gallery of Art, and in the collection of the National Museum of Women in the Arts, all in Washington, DC. This work is from the family collection & was recently exhibited at RI Historical Society.
