AN IMPRESSIVE 19TH CENTURY ELKINGTON CASED SET OF CANDELABRA AND CENTREPIECE
comprising a large silver plated centrepiece decorated with mythical creatures designed as winged lions with dolphin tails, raised on a shaped base supporting the bowl above, marked 'INVICTA' and with the horse symbol for Kent, the bowl marked to the underside with the Prince of Wales feathers, with an inscription to Mrs AE Ommanney on her marriage in 1888, from Colonel Knocker and the Officers of the 1st Volunteer Battalion 'The Buffs', together with a pair of candelabra in the George III style, with removable upper sections composed of four branches and candle nozzles, also marked 'Elkington' and stamped, the Neo-Classical style bases stamped 'ELKINGTON', all mounted within a fitted travelling chest, the trunk of wood and metal bound and with metal swing handles, lined with green baize and marbled paper, with paper labels for where to store each piece and with paper label inscribed 'ELKINGTON & CO.
