Footnotes
The Hellenistic version of this figural group has been attributed by scholars to the School of Praxiteles and dated to approximately 400 BC. This late period of the Hellenistic age saw the focus of sculpture turn more towards the emotive and playful style away from the solely religious and austere.
A smaller version of this figural group was sold at Sothebys Paris, 16/10/2007 lot 161.
