William IV (1765-1837), impressive large signature ('William R'), mounted; Edward VII (1841-1907), clipped signature as Prince of Wales ('Yrs very sincerely, Albert Edward P.'); Frederick, Duke of York (1763-1827), clipped signature ('Frederick, Commander in Chief'); Augustus Frederick, Duke of Sussex (1773-1843), signed free front, 1839; George FitzClarence, Earl of Munster (1794-1842), signed free front addressed to the Duchess Dowager of Richmond, 1837; George, Duke of Cambridge (1805-1894), signed envelope addressed to General the Lord Clyde, 1859; James, Henry, Baron James of Hereford (1828-1911). Collection of 12 autograph letters signed, 1868-74, all to 'My dear sir', concerning his election as Liberal MP for Taunton and other matters (in envelope annotated 'Letters from Henry James ... to M Ackland 1868 re political matters at Taunton, given to me by M Ackland's son 21 Sept 1934'); Liberal & Liberal Unionist Party. Collection of 17 autograph letters signed to Henry James, Baron James of Hereford, from: Joseph Chamberlain (1836-1914), 3 letters, 1895-1902, on South Africa and other matters; Randolph Churchill (1849-1895), 1889, cancelling an appointment for dinner; Spencer Cavendish, 8th Duke of Devonshire (1833-1908), 3 letters (as the Marquess of Hartington), 1887, arranging meetings; John Morley (1838-1923), 2 letters, 1887 & 1904, Edward Stanley, 15th Earl of Derby (1826-1893), 1887, inviting James to a meeting of Liberal Unionists at Liverpool; Sir William Harcourt (1827-1904), 2 letters (both as chancellor of the exchequer), 1895, on 11 Downing Street stationery, one concerning a meeting of the Leicester Committee; and 5 others. Together with approx. 25 similar autograph letters signed from peers and politicians, including John Bright (1811-1880), 1872 ('I shall be happy to present your petition to the house'), Sir Stafford Northcote (1818-1887), 1866, Roundell Palmer, 1st Earl of Selborne, 1887, to the Marquess of Hartington ('I will certainly ... attend the Unionist conference ... After the line taken by Gladstone, (which seems to one to get worse with every new speech or letter), it is certainly of great importance'), William Cavendish, 7th Duke of Devonshire (1808-1891), 2 letters, 1864 and 1876, on Windsor Castle and Chatsworth stationery respectively, John Campbell, 9th Duke of Argyll (1845-1914), 1910, on Inveraray stationery ('My publishers are Alex.
