Lot Note(s): Printed annotation on verso: "Courtesy of Pest Control Office, Banksy, Peckham Rock, 2005". Edition not specified. Fine, quality printing. Fine condition. Provenance: The British Museum. Comment(s): Another example of this work sold for $2,560 including premium at Julien’s Auctions, Beverly Hills, California, on April 25, 2019, lot #152. This work is based on Banksy’s original "Peckham Rock" concrete object. Banksy secretly placed the original, accompanied by an authentic looking information label, in the British Museum in 2005. It remained there for three days before anyone realized something was out of place. In 2018 the Museum and Banksy’s Pest Control published a wooden replica of the original as part of the exhibition “I object: Ian Hislop’s search for dissent.” The verso of the replica has a copy of the text from the information label that was originally placed with the concrete object. The copyright © for this work may or may not be owned by Banksy, who once opined that “copyright is for losers”. [30356-1-400]
