Description

NEW ENGLAND PAINT-DECORATED BASSWOOD BOX, rectangular dovetailed form with hinged lid and an iron bail handle to each end, open interior without lock, birch bottom. Retains its original ochre and yellow boldly sponged decoration featuring two figures to the front, one resembling a humanoid. Circa 1830. 10" H, 23 1/4" x 12 1/2".
Provenance: From a New England collection.

Condition

Very good as-found condition, top with moderate wear to paint, otherwise only minor wear at corners and edges.
