8vo. Publisher's maroon cloth, titled in gilt on spine, dust jacket printed and ruled in brown. Cloth slightly sunned on spine and upper cover, spine ends bumped, jacket with light soiling and staining, especially to spine, chipping at corners, a few small tears at edges of front and back panels.
FIRST EDITION, ASSOCIATION COPY, inscribed and signed by the author's father: 'John L. Bale / From his friend and colleague / Arthur Waugh / Father to the author, and — perhaps — the first inspirer of his critical flight / April:xix:1928.' Bale was an editor at Chapman and Hall, where Arthur Waugh had been a director.
