Description
Rare Union Barometer by Currier & Simpson, pat'd date Jan 31, 1860, an ante-bellum American version of a tendency barometer with intact mercury. Bottom knob is used to slide thermometer scale up and down so that thermometer reading matches mercury level. The barometer reading is then displayed on the vernier scale between "Rain" and "Fair". Marked upper right and marked with patent date, 15" x 5" x 2 1/2", wear to the silver engraved register. Screw on top seals mercury tube.
