Description
"Christ Driving the Money Changers from the Temple", the original printed 1636, this REVERSED etching on laid paper not much later, signed and dated in plate, thread margins, in gilt stick frame with linen mat, gilt liner, glazed, OS: 14" x 14 1/2", plate size: 5 1/4" x 6 1/2". Tipped in by top corners, slight bend and nip to lower right corner, not examined out of frame. Reversal of the image indicates this was rendered directly from the original print on the copper plate, thus reversing when inked and pressed. This is not listed in the New Hollstein catalog, and is distinct from and probably earlier than David Deucher's reverse copy of the 18th c., now in the British Museum's collection.
