A VICTORIAN SILVER TWIN HANDLED TROPHY CUP AND COVEREDWARD BARNARD & SONS LTD., LONDON 1898With a bell shaped finial to the ogee domed cover, the body with twin leaf capped double scroll handles, a girdle, engraved with an armorial and 'Presented to Cuthbert Leicester Warren Eqsuire upon his attaining his majority. By the tenants on the Tabley Estate 6 November 1838', on a circular moulded spreading pedestal foot47cm (18 1/2in) high3939g (126.65 oz)Provenance: The Property of the Trustees of the Davenport Estate The armorial for Cuthbert Leicester WARREN (1877-1954) of Tabley, Cheshire. He was the 2nd and youngest son of Sir Baldwin LEIGHTON (1836-1914) 8th Baronet of Wattlesborough, Shropshire who resided at Loton Park by Eleanor Leicester WARREN (1841-1914), later LEIGHTON-WARREN who assumed the arms of WARREN. In 1904 he married Hilda Marguerite DAVENPORT (died 1944) the daughter of Edward Henry DAVENPORT and had two sons.Cuthbert's maternal grandfather George Fleming LEICESTER (1811-1887) 2nd Baron Tabley, assumed the family name WARREN in respect of a bequest from kinswoman Elizabeth WARREN-BULKELEY, viscountess Bulkeley. It is the 2nd Baron's grandfather Peter BYRNE (1732-1770), 4th Baronet Byrne of Nether Tabley, the son of John BYRNE (1705-1742) 3rd Baronet of Nether Tabley by Meriel LEICESTER heiress of Francis LEICESTER 3rd Baronet Tabley, who in 1755 married Catherine FLEMING (died 1786), who had in 1744 adopted the family name LEICESTER. The BYRNE family were of Timogue, Queens County and Cabinteely, Dublin.
