"The Young Crusoe or Adventures of A Shipwrecked Boy" by Dr. Harley [pseudonym of John Andrew], illustrations signed in plate "White," published by Walker and Wise, Boston, 1864. Copyright 1864 by John Andrew.
Hard boards, original publisher's cloth [some fade, wear, small damage of the upper part of the spine: see photos]; 4.3/4" x 7.1/2"; "Eugene Ketterlinus" is ink-written on the front endpaper, extra engraved additional title page; 270 pages, several full-page, and text illustrations [engravings], some foxing and a little soiling, a few corner folds, very good condition.
Provenance:
From the library of Eugene Ketterlinus, pen written on the front endpaper. Eugene Ketterlinus [1824-1886} was a prolific commercial lithographer and printer, renown for his label work, active in Philadelphia from 1842-1886. Grandson of German engraver William Ketterlinus (1766-1803) and brother of fellow printers Paul (1820-1894) and Adolphus (ca. 1826-ca. 1867).
[Note: "The Young Crusoe" by Barbara Hofland (1828) and "The Young Crusoe" by Harley (1864) are two different works under identical title.]
